"The earthquakes are less of a concern compared to the pollution that these toxic fracking chemicals pose to drinking water supplies." ================= LOL, Well that's good to know! Since there's no proven case of hydraulic fracturing has ever even come close to migrating thru a mile or more of rock layers to reach an aquifer, by PDQ's 'logic' there's no chance of the process causing an earthquake!

There is no telling what injecting carbon into the earth might do. We need legislation to block carbon capture from happening because we don't know the long term effects.

Instead of CCS they should be converting the carbon in CO2 to fuel.

"...technologies designed to maintain a balance between the amounts of fluids injected and withdrawn, such as most geothermal and conventional oil and gas development, appear to produce fewer-induced seismic events than technologies that do not maintain fluid balance."
Makes sense. This ought to be GOOD news, IF companies do their job correctly!

wastewater??
how could such a wonderful and cheap thing like fracking have such an undesirable and so plentiful by product???
can't we spread it on farm fields and use it as fertilizer??
it's 90% water....
ethanol corn won't mind... (and it will likely boo0st the octane..)

The greatest threat from fracking is the potential for ground water contamination from the really nasty chemicals they pump down the wells.

The two go hand in hand. The real problem with fracking is the really nasty chemicals they use to kill bacteria which spoils the gas. They will be around for a very long time to contaminate ground water, etc.

Pumping large quantities of water and fluids into the ground will have consequences besides a shortage of water.

That's not a report; its a scam to get government funding. How can it be studied if it is qualified with "potentially," "not enough information exists," and "potential." The DOE is blowing away "their" money.

Don't worry folks.
The OIL & GAS industry has hired enough "experts", shills and spin doctors.
They can make this problem "go away" just by telling all of US this is not a REAL problem :0\
And for your amusement and entertainment, they perform smoke and mirrors tricks along with their bait and switch explanations .....:0|

Fracking induced earthquakes are baby quakes that won't break anything, lived in California.
Besides not buying so much from China, we ought to be developing distribution systems for abundant, cheap and clean American natural gas. CNG should be our primary alternative to oil based fuels. CNG could easily replace diesel in heavy duty trucks, trains, city busses and construction equipment. This would reduce the price of diesel and free it up for use in high efficiency light trucks, cars and etc. In turn the price of gasoline would go down and could fuel new high MPG vehicles and become cheaper for the rest of us. North America could easily become energy independent and we would no longer have to send billions of dollars every year to OPEC and our enemies in Iran, Venezuela and etc. WE HAVE TO STOP BLEEDING DOLLARS ACROSS THE SEAS IN ALL DIRECTIONS!!!

I'm not sure either one is good. It's a little like saying more people died from lung cancer than heart attacks. All the people in the studies died.
